Alex Zivojinovich (born August 27, 1953 in Fernie , British Columbia , Canada ), better known by his stage name Alex Lifeson , is a Canadian musician. He is a founding member and guitarist of the rock band Rush .

Career

The son of Serbian immigrants from Šabac , in western Serbia, grew up in Toronto , the capital of the province of Ontario and the largest city in Canada . Since Zivojinovich ( Živojinović ) roughly translates to something like "son of life" (Engl. Son of life ) means Alex put his stage name to Lifeson.

Alex Lifeson plays the guitar and, together with Geddy Lee, composes the music for the rock band Rush . Drummer Neil Peart is responsible for the lyrics of the band . Lifeson owns a small company called The Omega Concern , which designs and manufactures consumer products, and also owns a Toronto restaurant, The Orbit Room , and is a licensed pilot and motorcycle mechanic.

Together with his band members Geddy Lee and Neil Peart , Lifeson was appointed Officer of the Order of Canada (OC) on May 9, 1996 . Rush were the first musicians in Canada to be honored with this award. At the beginning of the same year, Lifeson's only solo album to date was released - Victor .

In 2000 Lifeson contributed the title March of the High Guard to the first season of the television series Andromeda .

In 2003, Alex had a guest role on the Canadian comedy television series Trailer Park Boys . This is an episode of the third season entitled "Closer To The Heart", based on the rush song of the same name from the album A Farewell to Kings from 1977. He also embodied in the 2006 movie Trailer Park Boys: The Movie a cop.

In 2009 he played a border official in the film Suck - Bis (s) zum Success.

On New Year's Eve 2003, Alex, his son Justin, and daughter-in-law Michelle were arrested at a hotel in Naples , Florida . Lifeson, who was trying to mediate a dispute between his son and the police, was charged with alcohol assaulting an auxiliary officer; In 2005, he and his son Justin were given a 12-month suspended sentence.

On Fear of a Blank Planet , the 2007 album by the British music group Porcupine Tree , Alex Lifeson plays a guitar solo in the song Anesthetize .

On June 25, 2010, Alex Lifeson and his Rush bandmates, Geddy Lee and Neil Peart , were honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame . Almost three years later, on April 18, 2013, Rush was finally inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame . During the ceremony in Los Angeles , singer Dave Grohl and drummer Taylor Hawkins gave a laudatory speech and played a medley of their most famous songs with Rush .

In 2011, Rolling Stone listed him 98th of the 100 best guitarists of all time .
