Rush in Rio is a live album by the Canadian band Rush . It was released on October 21, 2003. The album was recorded in the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro , which was also the last stop on the Vapor Trails Tour . However, two songs on the third CD were recorded elsewhere on the tour. One was “Between Sun & Moon”, recorded in the Cricket Wireless Pavilion in Phoenix , Arizona , and the other was “Vital Signs”, recorded in the Colisée Pepsi in Quebec , Canada .

In addition to the CD version, a DVD version of the concert has also been released.

criticism

The album received a positive response from critics.

It received 4.5 / 5 stars from Allmusic . Thom Jurek sees the album as a sensational historical musical document as it reveals the show as it actually took place - without overdubs or technical post-production. Rush presented their best concert ever. For those for whom Rush is a secret vice, now is the time to indulge it openly by playing this album to those people who falsely insist that Sonic Youth or the Strokes concerts are the epitome of live rock ( big-label live rock ).

Michael Rensen notes that 23 of the 29 songs have already been heard on other concert recordings of the band and asks the question why you need this album anyway. He emphasizes Neil Peart's drumming, which "even after 30 years still cannot be put into words". In contrast to the other live albums by Rush, this one is “warmer, heavier and more voluminous.” Rush in Rio is unique and a memorable sound document - especially because of the fans and their background choirs, “which make every German Bundesliga stadium a deadly quiet one Degrade provincial football field.
