Johann Georg Hiltensperger

Johann Georg Hiltensperger (born February 21, 1806 in Haldenwang ; † June 13, 1890 in Munich ) was a history painter and professor at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts .

Life

Johann Georg Hiltensperger received his training from the Kempten drawing teacher L. Weiß, at the Munich Royal Art Academy from Johann Peter von Langer and at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from Peter von Cornelius .

Back in Munich in 1825, Hiltensperger took on orders for paintings and frescoes from King Ludwig I and King Maximilian II Joseph . For example, from 1838 to 1865, based on designs by Ludwig Schwanthaler, he carried out the odyssey cycle in the ballroom building of the Munich residence . He was a member of the Munich Association for Christian Art .

Hiltensperger's first marriage was the daughter of the postman and landowner Anna Theresia von Paur (1806–1831) from Unterbruck , a sister of the member of the state parliament, Carl von Paur . His son from his second marriage was the painter Otto Hiltensperger .
