Huangpu
Huangpu ( Chinese 黃浦 區 / 黄浦 区 , Pinyin Huángpǔ Qū ) is one of the eight "inner" districts of the government- direct city of Shanghai in the People's Republic of China .
After annexing the former Luwan district , Huangpu has an area of 20.46 square kilometers (including 0.5 square kilometers of water) and a population of 947,075 (2003). The population density is 47,449 inhabitants per square kilometer.
Huangpu is a southern downtown district of Shanghai located on the left bank of the Huangpu River . In the north, Huangpu is bounded by the Suzhou Creek. The district is sometimes called "New Huangpu" and was formed on June 13, 2000 through the amalgamation of the old Huangpu District with the then dissolved Nanshi District.
Huangpu is home to the Bund , Nanjing Lu , “People's Square” ( Renmin Guangchang ) and the Shanghai Museum, some of the most important tourist attractions in Shanghai.
