Luwan (卢湾 区 Lúwān Qū) was an "inner" municipality of the government- direct city ​​of Shanghai in the People's Republic of China .

Luwan had an area of ​​8.05 square kilometers (including 0.5 square kilometers of water) and 328,383 inhabitants (2003). The population density was 40,793 people per square kilometer. Luwan was made up of four street districts.

The Luwan Ward began south of People's Square and was crossed by Huaihai Street, a shopping street famous for its shops and restaurants. The former French concession was also located in the Luwan area, which is characterized by the avenues with plane trees that were imported from France more than a century ago.

On May 20, 2011, Luwan was disbanded and incorporated into the Huangpu District .
