Songjiang ( Chinese  松江 区 , Pinyin Sōngjiāng Qū ) is a Chinese municipality in the government- immediate city ​​of Shanghai . It has 1,751,300 residents, of which 691,800 are permanent residents in Songjiang, the rest are migrant workers, students, etc. (end of 2017), on an area of ​​604.71 square kilometers. The real population density is 2896 inhabitants per square kilometer.

Songjiang is a still partially rural district in the southwest of Shanghai, which is traversed by the Huangpu River and through which the railway line leads to Hangzhou . There are also numerous industrial areas with a focus on the textile industry and high technology.

In 1997, Songjiang was transformed from a county into today's municipality.

Buildings and sights

Since 2001 many universities have been partially relocated from the center of Shanghai to Songjiang. Currently (2019) in the "university town of Songjiang" (松江 大学 城, Pinyin Sōngjiāng Dàxuéchéng ) in the street district of Guangfulin there are institutes of the following universities on 533 hectares, with a total of around 100,000 students and lecturers:

For Expo 2010 the large village was here in the south of Sheshan , the Botanical Garden Chenshan opened.

The Hotel Intercontinental Shanghai Wonderland opened in 2018 . It is the world's first earth scraper, a skyscraper built into the ground. The building was erected in a disused quarry, it has 18 floors, of which only the top two protrude above the surface of the earth. The remaining floors are 88 meters deep, the two lowest even under water. After about 7 years of planning, the construction time lasted from 2013 to the end of 2018, the architect is the Briton Martin Jochmann .

Administrative structure

At the community level, Songjiang today (2019) consists of six street districts and eleven large communities . These are:

Road quarter Jiuliting (九里亭街道);
Yongfeng Street District (永丰 街道);
Yueyang Street District (岳阳 街道);

Greater community Dongjing (洞泾镇);
Greater community Jiuting (九亭镇);
Greater community Maogang (泖港镇);
Greater community Sheshan (佘山镇);

Greater community Xiaokunshan (小昆山镇);
Greater community Xinbang (新浜镇);
Greater community Xinqiao (新桥镇);
