Sheshan ( Chinese  佘山 鎮  /  佘山 镇 , Pinyin Shéshān Zhèn ) is a large community in the north of the Songjiang district of the Chinese city of Shanghai . Sheshan has an area of 74.7 km² and a population of around 75,500 (2014). The name of the large community is derived from the Sheshan (佘山, lit. "The hill populated by the She-Clan"), a small elevation with an east and a west summit, which is 72.4 m and 97.2 m high, respectively m above sea level. On the western summit of the hill are the Roman Catholic Sheshan basilica as well as the optical telescope and the laser telescope of today's Sheshan branch of the Shanghai Astronomical Observatory (佘山 天文台, Pinyin Shéshān Tiānwéntái ). The radio observatory with a 25 m parabolic mirror and a swiveling 13.2 m parabolic antenna for the VLBI Global Observatory System is located at the foot of the east summit, directly on the shore of Lake Mondsee .

history

The area around Sheshan was already settled during the Liangzhu culture (3400–2000 BC); Late Neolithic finds were made in the area of the large community, which correspond to those of the nearby Guangfulin site (now a street district of Songjiang ). The hill Sheshan is mentioned in writing for the first time in the early 1190s, where Yang Qian (杨 Land), since 1190 district administrator of Huating (华亭, today's Songjiang), wrote “ Description of Yunjian ”(云 间 志, Pinyin Yúnjiān Zhì , an ancient name of Songjiang) speaks of the fact that the She-Clan is located there. When Japanese bandit gangs raided the area of what is now Shanghai from the middle of the 16th century , Sheshan - Wang Yangming had reactivated the Song Temporary Baojia militia system as early as 1506 - after an administrative reform in 1542, formed the 38th homeland security group of the Jixian community in Qingpu County Songjiang Prefecture (松江 府 青浦 县 集贤 乡 38 保).

After another administrative reform in 1914, the third year of the Republic , Sheshan was the District Qingpu, while today's population Community Tianma was added to the rebuilt circuit Songjiang. Sheshan came to Songjiang in December 1954. In September 1958, Sheshan and Tianma were each converted into a people's commune. These were dissolved again in April 1984 and became municipalities (乡), each with its own government. In June 1986, Sheshan rose to become a large community (镇), followed by Tianma in April 1994. In January 2001, the two large municipalities were finally merged with the approval of the Shanghai city government. The new large community is called Sheshan. Tianma is one of four communities (社区) in this large municipality.
