The Intercontinental Shanghai Wonderland ( Chinese : 上海 洲际 世茂 仙境 酒店 Shànghǎi Zhōujì Shìmào Xiānjìng Jiǔdiàn) (also called Tianma Pit Hotel , Shimao Quarry Hotel and Pit Pegasus Hotel ) is a luxury hotel of the InterContinental Hotels Group in the Songjiang district of Shanghai .
The hotel, which is built in a convex to concave shape , was built within a former quarry . This in turn was partially flooded to a lake, so that part of the hotel is under water.
Construction and equipment
The InterContinental Hotels Group financed the construction with 555 million US dollars . The design was shortlisted for an award at the World Architecture Festival in 2009 .
The hotel has 18 floors. The top two floors are above the actually former quarry, the lower two floors below the water level (lake) in the former quarry.
The hotel has 337 rooms, a conference hall for up to 1000 people, another large ballroom and restaurants and cafes on the ground floor and the top floors.
