Nanjing Lu

The Nanjing Lu ( Chinese  南京路 , Pinyin Nanjing , english Nanjing Road , formerly Nanking - street called) in Shanghai is one of the largest shopping streets in the world. It is named after the city of Nanjing , capital of neighboring Jiangsu Province .

Nanjing Lu is located in the city center and runs in an east-west direction.

  • The eastern part (南京 东路, Nánjīng Dōng Lù) is located in the Huangpu district and extends from the Bund to People's Square (人民 广场, Rénmín Guǎngchǎng). In the eastern part there is a pedestrian zone with shops, restaurants and cafes, which attract numerous tourists and local visitors with their lush neon signs.
  • The western part (南京 西路, Nánjīng Xī Lù) begins at People's Square and continues west to the Jing'an district (静安). The western part is known for its luxury shopping centers.
