Gaoqiao ( Chinese  高桥 , Pinyin Gāoqiáo ) is a suburb of the Pudong community of Shanghai in the People's Republic of China . The old town of Gaoqiao dates back to the Song Dynasty . Gaoqiao New Town - also Holland Village (Hollanddorf) or Holland Town - is a new planned city in Dutch architectural style .

Gaoqiao is located at the north end of Pudong, on the east bank of the Huangpu Jiang River and next to the Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone. Gaoqiao extends over an area of 39 km² and had 84,900 registered inhabitants in 2008. Gaoqiao is connected via Line 6 of the Shanghai Metro .

Gaoqiao New Town was created as part of the One City, Nine Towns initiative , which began in 2001. In the course of this project, each suburban district of Shanghai was assigned a new planned city with its own theme. Pudong's new planned town, Gaoqiao, was assigned the Dutch theme. Other western themes used so far are Scandinavian , Italian , Spanish , Canadian, English and German . The Dutch architectural offices Kuiper Compagnons and Atelier Dutch jointly developed the design for the city originally planned to cover 1 km²; Chinese designers came later. There are replicas of Dutch buildings such as the Het Scheepvaartmuseum , the De Bijenkorf department store in Amsterdam and the Hofwijck manor in Leidschendam-Voorburg . Part of the city was inspired by the Kattenbroek district of Amersfoort . The town also has a windmill and is a popular location for wedding photos. By July 2010 only parts of the city had been completed.

Binjiang Forest Park is located on the northern tip of Gaoqiao, at Sancha Port. The first 1.2 km² of the planned 3 km² of the park were opened in 2007.
