Andrian Kreye

Andrian Kreye (born October 9, 1962 in Munich ) is a German journalist and writer .

Life

Kreye has worked as a freelance journalist for various media in Europe and the USA since 1982. From 1985 to 1988 he was an editor at Tempo magazine , which he co-founded, and then went to the United States as their New York correspondent . From 1996 to 1999 he wrote regularly for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung . In 1999 he sailed for GEO on the Freydis with the Erich Wilts through Vanuatu . Then he was New York correspondent for the Süddeutsche Zeitung until 2006 . Since 2007 he has headed the features section of the Süddeutsche Zeitung in Munich , initially together with Thomas Steinfeld , and since 2015 with Sonja Zekri .

Kreye is the author of several documentary films such as Guatemala, Land im Todesfieber (Director: Georg Stefan Troller ) and New York in the Shadow of the Towers (Director: Katja Esson ). He also published short stories. His research took him to North and South America, Africa and Asia. Kreye writes regularly about jazz .

In January 2007 Andrian Kreye was awarded the Golden Prometheus as “Newspaper Journalist of the Year 2006” for his New York reports in the Süddeutsche Zeitung . In 2019 he received the Theodor Wolff Prize in the Topic of the Year category for a contribution on artificial intelligence .

In 2019, Kreye's close association with literary agent John Brockman became known. He had networked Jeffrey Epstein among intellectuals and was supported by him. Epstein committed suicide in 2019 after allegations of forced prostitution. Kreye had reported positively on Brockman several times and defended him in a negative review of Michael Angeles' book about Frank Schirrmacher . The Süddeutsche Zeitung had reported little on Brockman's role in the Epstein scandal.
