Holy Spirit Church

Holy Spirit is the Catholic Church in Bothfeld , a district of Hanover ( Lower Saxony ). The church is a parish church in the Hanover deanery of the Hildesheim diocese . It is named after the Holy Spirit and is located at Niggemannweg 18 (corner of Kurz-Kamp-Straße ).

history

After Catholic refugees and expellees had settled in Bothfeld as a result of the Second World War , a Catholic service was held from Easter 1947. It first took place in a school barrack of the Grimsehlweg School, later in the hall of the Stöckmann restaurant.

In 1952 the first Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit was built in Bothfeld, and in September of the same year it was benedicted by Bishop Joseph Godehard Machens . It was located on the corner of Burgwedeler Strasse and Schnelle-Kamp-Strasse, about 150 meters from today's church. It was built as a long house with a roof turret and had about 120 seats. In 1956 the parish of Bothfeld (Kuratiegemeinde) was established, before the church belonged to the parish of St. Joseph .

The church turned out to be too small at the end of the 1950s, so the current church was built in 1962/63. The foundation stone was laid in August 1962. On December 1, 1963, the parish of Bothfeld was raised to a parish, and on December 7, 1963, the consecration of the new church by Bishop Heinrich Maria Janssen took place . In December 1963, the demolition of the first church began.

On September 1, 2010, St. Brother Konrad in Hanover- List , St. Franziskus in Hanover- Vahrenheide and the Holy Cross in Altwarmbüchen joined the parish of Heilig Geist as subsidiary churches . The branch church of St. Brother Konrad was profaned on June 22, 2013, followed by the Holy Cross on September 26, 2015 . A new church was consecrated in Altwarmbüchen on January 8, 2017.

Architecture and equipment

The church was built according to plans by the architect Hodler (Hanover). Ludwig Schaffrath designed the windows in 1963. In the 1970s, Claus Kilian (including the altar ) and Hein Wimmer (including the tabernacle and hanging cross) contributed to the artistic design of the chancel today . The organ was built in 1972 by Gebrüder Hillebrand Orgelbau .
