Hein Wimmer
Hein Wimmer (born January 15, 1902 in Küppersteg , † 1986 in Cologne ) was a German gold and silversmith and sculptor .
Life and education
As a high school student, Wimmer came into contact with the artist community in Marienthal around Pastor Augustinus Winkelmann , who shaped him. After high school in 1920 he began 1922 a study of the science and art history at the University of Cologne . From 1927 to 1933 he studied at the Cologne Werkkunstschule in the class for gold and silversmiths and metal sculpture, from 1930 as a master student . From 1933 he worked independently. In 1937 he passed the master craftsman examination at the Cologne Chamber of Crafts . In 1940 he was called up for military service and was taken prisoner of war in Russia in 1944 , from which he was released in 1947. From 1949 he taught at the Werkkunstschule Krefeld , from 1965 until his retirement in 1967 with a professorship .
The focus of his work was sacred art .
