history

The parish of St. Willehad was established as early as April 1, 1961. The St. Willehad Church was built from 1963 to 1966 because the previous church (Fährer Flur 59), consecrated in 1922, had become too small. The new church, around 24 meters above sea level , was designed by the Hamburg architect Karlheinz Bargholz , the interior was designed by Hein Wimmer (Cologne). The foundation stone was laid in 1964 and the Church was consecrated on January 29, 1966 . In reliquary relics were sacred Bernward of Hildesheim , Gereon , Godehard of Hildesheim and Ursula from Cologne kept. In 2004 a pastoral care unit was formed from the parishes of Aumund, Grohn and Lesum . From November 1, 2006, the church belonged as a branch church to the parish of the Holy Family in Grohn, the parish of St. Willehad was dissolved in this context.

On June 29, 2011 the church was profaned by Vicar General Werner Schreer . The inventory including the stone altar was given away to a Catholic community in Poland , the church building to the Evangeliums-Christen-Gemeinde Bremen e. V. sold.
