Hugh Glasgow

Hugh Glasgow (born September 8, 1769 in Nottingham , Chester County , Province of Pennsylvania , †  January 31, 1818 in Peach Bottom , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . Between 1813 and 1817 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Hugh Glasgow attended public schools in his home country and then worked in agriculture. After studying law and being admitted to the bar, he began to work in this profession. Between 1800 and 1813 he was a judge in York County . Politically, he joined the Democratic Republican Party .

In the congressional elections of 1812 , Glasgow in the fourth constituency of Pennsylvania was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Robert Whitehill on March 4, 1813 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1817 . These were initially overshadowed by the events of the British-American War . Hugh Glasgow died in Peach Bottom on January 31, 1818.
