history

Lipová-lázně ( Bad Lindewiese ) - Main Street

Between 1232 and 1268, under the Breslau bishop Thomas I , the areas around the Jeseníky Mountains were reclaimed. For this project he brought settlers from Thuringia and Franconia. In a document from 1257, which was issued by Bishop Thomas I and Duke Heinrich III. was signed, Lindewiese and 28 other places in the Freiwaldau district are named. These settlements probably existed long before that. In a later document, 40 farm positions are listed by name, which had to pay the bishop a tithe . In 1547 57 farming settlements were registered in the Freiwaldau land registry.

Lindewiese became known as a health resort, because it was here that Johann Schroth developed his cold water treatment methods in the 19th century. Bad Lindewiese and the neighboring town of Graefenberg, inextricably linked to the founder of the modern cold water cure, Vinzenz Prießnitz , became the best-known spa establishments of the Habsburg monarchy . On December 1, 1930, the community Niederlindewiese had 3470 inhabitants, on May 17, 1939 3290 and on May 22, 1947 2046 inhabitants. After the end of the Second World War in 1945, the German residents were expropriated and expelled . In the ensuing communism, there was a decline in the spa business. Since the Velvet Revolution , Lipová-Lázně has been transformed into a modern health resort again.
