List of marbles
The list of marbles only includes marbles in the petrographic sense (including silicate marbles and silicate garnet marbles ), but not limestones , limestone breccias , dolomites , travertines and so-called onyx marbles . As a result, some types of natural stone that are not listed here have also been called "marble" for a long time, although they are not according to geoscientific criteria. The following table offers a selection in order to deepen the idea of the variety in color and structure as well as the geographical distribution. There are color-structural deviations from each variety shown, which can be minor or significant. A comprehensive representation of all fluctuations is not possible here.
Technical note: White marbles are difficult to display on the screen - especially under the condition that crystal and other fine structures remain visible to the viewer. For this reason, there is often a slight gray-blue color tendency in the images in question.
