history

The village is first mentioned in 1374 under the then name Petia . The noble Orelli family of Locarno were wealthy there in 1369. In 1374 Peccia took part as a municipality in the division of the vicinia Lavizzara. The still existing comunella is a remnant of the old community and belonged together to the villages of Peccia, Fusio and Prato-Sornico . Under the rule of the Confederates, Peccia appointed one of the seven judges and three members of the Lavizzara Council. Peccia used to be known for its soapstone (Laveggio) and its cheese called della paglia . The common property of the four municipalities ( comunella dei quattro comuni ) Fusio, Peccia, Prato (Vallemaggia) and Sornico was only dissolved in 1929.

Community merger

The previously independent political municipality was merged on April 4, 2004 with the former municipalities of Broglio , Brontallo , Fusio , Menzonio and Prato-Sornico to form the municipality of Lavizzara.
