From 1864 to 2004, Prato-Sornico was a municipality in the Lavizzara district, in the Vallemaggia district of the canton of Ticino in Switzerland .

geography

The village lies at an altitude between 742 and 754 m above sea level. M. on the left bank of the Lavizzara (river) and at the entrance to Val Prato, 37 kilometers northwest of Locarno . An abundant mineral spring gushes on one of the alpine pastures belonging to the village. The 3,071 m above sea level rises above the village. M. Pizzo Campo Tencia .

history

The village is first mentioned in 1374 under the then name Prato , 1374 Sornico . The place used to belong to the vicinìa Lavizzara and enjoyed a certain independence. In 1374, the villages of Prato, Sornico, Broglio TI , Peccia and Fusio divided the common area. From 1803 on, Prato formed a political municipality, from 1864 it was united with Sornico to form the municipality of Prato-Sornico.

Community merger

It emerged from the merger of Prato (Vallemaggia) and Sornico and merged in 2004 with Broglio, Brontallo , Fusio , Menzonio and Peccia in the larger municipality of Lavizzara.
