Sornico mit Prato (Vallemaggia) is a fraction of the political municipality Lavizzara in the Lavizzara district , in the Vallemaggia district of the canton of Ticino in Switzerland.

geography

The village is located at 754 m above sea level. M. in Val Lavizzara , on the left bank of the Lavizzara and 8 km north of the village of Bignasco .

history

The village was first mentioned in 1374 under the then name Sornico . The village belonged to the vicinia Lavizzara and was its main town. In 1374 the villages of Sornico, Prato (Vallemaggia) , Broglio TI , Peccia and Fusio divided the common land; one can therefore set the emergence of the still existing community of Sornico for this year.

Community merger

Prato-Sornico was merged on April 4, 2004 with the former municipalities of Broglio , Brontallo , Fusio , Menzonio to form the municipality of Lavizzara.
