Prato (Vallemaggia) with Sornico is a fraction of the Ticino municipality Lavizzara .
geography
The village is 750 m above sea level. M. at the foot of Pizzo Rüscada (2558 m above sea level) on the left bank of the Lavizzara and at the entrance to Val Prato, 37 km northwest of Locarno train station .
history
The village was first mentioned in 1374 as Prato . In the High Middle Ages it belonged to the Lavizzara valley. In 1374, the villages of Prato, Sornico , Broglio , Peccia and Fusio divided the common area.
On April 4, 2004, Prato-Sornico merged with the former municipalities of Broglio , Brontallo , Fusio , Menzonio to form the newly formed municipality of Lavizzara.

Attractions
The village image is classified in the inventory of protected sites in Switzerland (ISOS) as a site of national importance in Switzerland.
- Parish Church of Santi Fabiano and Sebastiano, consecrated in 1487; inside the paintings Crucifixion with Saint Roch and Sebastianus by the painter Giuseppe Mattia Borgnis (mid 18th century) and Sacra Famiglia by the painter Jacobus Buferus (1663)
