Broglio is a fraction of the political municipality Lavizzara in the Lavizzara district , in the Vallemaggia district of the canton of Ticino in Switzerland.

geography

The village is 710 m above sea level. M. on the Locarno - Fusio road and on the right bank of the Maggia (river) ; 25 km northwest of Locarno.

history

The village was first mentioned in 1361 as the Brono . By the end of the 14th century, the village must have formed a single municipality with Prato-Sornico , Peccia and Fusio . On September 10, 1397, the common area was divided. Broglio first belonged to the parish of Locarno , then to Sornico; before 1647 it was detached from it as an independent sub-parish.

Community merger

The previously independent political municipality Broglio was merged on April 4, 2004 with the former municipalities of Fusio , Brontallo , Menzonio , Peccia and Prato-Sornico to form Lavizzara.
