Marble Museum
In the district of Rance is the Musée national du marbre , the national marble museum, which is dedicated to the former quarrying of a red-brown limestone ( Marbre de Rance ) in local quarries and predominantly red-brown variations near Philippeville . The Rance limestone originated in the Upper Devonian ( Frasnium ) period. These rocks were used for exclusive purposes in Belgium and France. For example, the Marbre de Rance in the Palace of Versailles was used to design the mirror gallery (Galerie des Glaces).
