history

Today's Chimay community emerged in 1977 as part of a community reform from the merger of fourteen previously independent towns. These are Baileux, Bailièvre, Bourlers, Forges, L'Escaillère, Lompret , Rièzes, Robechies, Salles, Saint-Remy, Villers-la-Tour, Vaulx, Virelles and Chimay.

In Chimay, the Grand Prix des Frontières was held on the Circuit de Chimay between 1929 and 1969 , a motorsport event that was advertised for Formula 2 and later Formula 3 vehicles and motorcycles after the Second World War . The circuit was over ten kilometers long.
