Ourafane (also: Ourofane ) is a rural community in the Tessaoua department in Niger .

geography

Ourafane is in the Sahel . The neighboring municipalities are Falenko in the north, Tirmini in the east, Garagoumsa in the south-east, Baoudetta in the south, Issawane in the south-west and El Allassane Maïreyrey in the north-west. The municipality is divided into 73 administrative villages, 111 traditional villages, 85 hamlets and three camps. The main town of the rural parish is the administrative village of Ourafane.

history

The French colonial administration established a canton in Ourafane at the beginning of the 20th century in order to limit the Tuareg's sphere of influence in the region. In 2002, as part of a nationwide administrative reform, the canton Ourafane became the rural community of Ourafane.

population

At the 2001 census, Ourafane had 88,900 inhabitants. At the 2012 census, the population was 137,850.

Economy and Infrastructure

The community is located on the southern edge of a zone where agropastoralism is practiced. There is a cattle market in the village of Gararé. The market day is Sunday.
