The neighboring communities are El Allassane Maïreyrey in the north, Ourafane in the northeast, Maïjirgui in the southeast, Kanan-Bakaché in the south and Mayahi in the west. The municipality is divided into 26 administrative villages, 15 hamlets and six camps. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village of Issawane (also: Kaoura Issawane).

history

Before the arrival of the French at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, Issawane was part of the independent state of Katsina . The rural community of Issawane emerged from a part of the Kanan-Bakaché canton in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform.

population

At the 2001 census, Issawane had 29,987 inhabitants. At the 2012 census, the population was 40,155. The largest ethnic groups in the multiethnic community are Hausa , Fulbe and Tuareg , who communicate with each other in Hausa .

Economy and Infrastructure

Agropastoralism is practiced in Issawane . Agriculture is impaired by the lack of fallow periods , soil depletion and unsafe rainfall. Livestock farming suffers from insufficient grazing land and a lack of supplementary feed . There is no road network, which adds to the remoteness of the rural community. The only health center in the main town is small and outdated. There are 17 primary schools in Issawane, although in some villages only a few children, especially a few girls, attend school regularly.
