Julien Chanoine and Paul Voulet , the leaders of the French military expedition, Mission Voulet-Chanoine , notorious for their cruelty , were killed by their own soldiers in Maïjirgui on July 16 and 17, 1899, respectively, and buried there under an ana tree. On December 6 of the same year, another French military expedition, the Foureau-Lamy mission, stopped in the village, which had previously crossed the Sahara and then moved on to Lake Chad .

The Maïjirgui market was one of the small markets in the region that was authorized by the French administration at the beginning of the 20th century.

The rural community of Maïjirgui emerged in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform from that part of the canton of Tessaoua that was not added to the municipality of Tessaoua.
