Kanan-Bakaché (also: Kanambakaché ) is a rural community in the Mayahi department in Niger .

geography

Kanan-Bakaché is located in the Sahel region . The neighboring communities are Issawane in the north, Maïjirgui and Tessaoua in the southeast, Aguié in the southwest and Mayahi in the west. The Wadi Goulbi N'Kaba runs through Kanan-Bakaché . The municipality is divided into 47 villages, 31 hamlets and ten camps. The main town of the rural community is the village of Kanan-Bakaché (also: Kanambakaché). The second largest village by population is Dan Kori .

history

Before the arrival of the French at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, Kanan-Bakaché was part of the independent state of Katsina . The local market was one of the small markets in the region that was approved by the French administration at the beginning of the 20th century. In the 1960s it developed into an important transshipment point for peanuts , Niger's most important export at the time.

The rural community of Kanan-Bakaché emerged from the canton of Kanan-Bakaché in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform, from which the rural communities of El Allassane Maïreyrey , Issawane and Tchaké were separated. In the 2010 flood disaster in West and Central Africa , 250 residents of Kanan-Bakaché were classified as disaster victims.

At the 2001 census, Kanan-Bakaché had 62,956 inhabitants. At the 2012 census, the population was 85,367.

The community is located in a zone where rain-fed agriculture is practiced.
