Hawandawaki is a rural municipality in the department Tessaoua in Niger .

geography

Hawandawaki is located in the Sahel zone and borders the neighboring state of Nigeria in the southwest . The neighboring communities in Niger are Gazaoua in the northwest, Korgom in the north, Tsaouni in the northeast and Dan-Barto in the southeast. The municipality is divided into 28 administrative villages, 18 traditional villages, 68 hamlets and four camps. The main town of the rural community is Hawandawaki, consisting of the administrative villages Hawandawaki Haoussa and Hawandawaki Peulh.

history

In the 1960s, the market in the village of Dodori was an important transshipment point for peanuts , Niger's most important export at the time. The rural community of Hawandawaki emerged from the southern part of the canton of Korgom in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform.

At the 2001 census, Hawandawaki had 35,143 residents. At the 2012 census, the population was 39,739.

Economy and Infrastructure

The community is located in the narrow zone along the border with Nigeria, which extends from Tounouga in the west to Malawa in the east and is used in irrigation farming for cash crops . National Road 20 runs through Hawandawaki and connects the town with the neighboring municipality of Korgom.
