Tsaouni is a rural community in the Kantché department in Niger .
geography
Tsaouni lies at the transition from the large Sudan landscape to the Sahel zone . The neighboring communities are Daouché in the northwest, Kantché in the northeast, Matamèye in the east, Kourni in the southeast, Dan-Barto in the southwest and Hawandawaki in the west. The municipality is divided into 28 administrative villages, eight traditional villages, 50 hamlets and three camps. The main town of the rural community is Tsaouni.
history
The rural community of Tsaouni emerged in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform from part of the canton of Kantché.
population
At the 2001 census, Tsaouni had 21,357 inhabitants. For 2010, 28,997 inhabitants were calculated. Members of the Fulbe sub-group Daourawa, which mainly practices agropastoralism , live in Tsaouni .
Economy and Infrastructure
The community is located in the narrow zone along the border with Nigeria , which extends from Tounouga in the west to Malawa in the east and is used in irrigation farming for cash crops . National road 10 runs through Tsaouni and connects the town with the neighboring communities of Dan-Barto and Matamèye.
