Kourni is a rural community in the Kantché department in Niger .

geography

Kourni is located in the greater Sudan landscape . The neighboring communities are Tsaouni in the north, Matamèye in the northeast, Yaouri in the east, Sassoumbroum in the south and Dan-Barto in the west. The municipality is divided into 29 administrative villages, five traditional villages, 106 hamlets and two camps. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village of Kourni (also: Kourni Koutchika).

history

The rural community of Kourni emerged in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform from part of the canton of Kantché.

population

At the 2001 census, Kourni had 20,411 residents. For the year 2010, 27,713 inhabitants were calculated. Members of the Fulbe sub-group Daourawa, which mainly practices agropastoralism , live in Kourni .

Economy and Infrastructure

The community is located in the narrow zone along the border with Nigeria , which extends from Tounouga in the west to Malawa in the east and is used in irrigation farming for cash crops .
