Doungou is a rural community in the Kantché department in Niger .

geography

Doungou lies at the transition from the Sudan to the Sahel zone . The neighboring communities are Ichirnawa in the north, Droum in the east and Matamèye in the south and west. The municipality is divided into 24 administrative villages, eight traditional villages, 30 hamlets and two camps. The main town of the rural municipality is Doungou, consisting of the administrative villages of Doungou Bougagé and Doungou Haoussa.

history

The rural community of Doungou emerged in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform from part of the canton of Kantché.

population

At the 2011 census, Doungou had 22,879 inhabitants. For 2010, 31,064 inhabitants were calculated. Members of the Fulbe sub-group Daourawa, which mainly practices agropastoralism , live in Doungou .

Economy and Infrastructure

The community is located in a zone where rain-fed agriculture is practiced.
