Droum is a rural community in the Mirriah department in Niger .

geography

Droum is in the Sahel region . The neighboring communities are Tirmini in the north, Zinder in the east, Dogo in the south, Doungou in the south-west and Ichirnawa in the north-west. The municipality is divided into 76 administrative villages, 59 hamlets and seven camps. The main town of the rural community is Droum, consisting of the administrative villages of Droum Kahi and Droum Malori.

The Forêt classée de Droum is a 15 hectare protected forest area in the municipality of Droum. It was placed under protection in 1952.

history

In 1820, Sultan Sélimane dan Tintouma joined the Droum rulership to his Sultanate of Zinder , which was part of the Bornu Empire . In 1899 France occupied the Sultanate of Zinder. At the beginning of the 20th century, the French colonial administration established a canton in Droum, to which the dissolved canton Mazoza was joined in 1923 and the dissolved canton Tonkour in 1924. The markets in Droum and in the Droum village of Gogo were among the small markets in the region that were approved by the French administration at the beginning of the 20th century. In 2002, as part of a state-wide administrative reform, the canton of Droum became the rural municipality of Droum.

At the 2001 census, Droum had 55,078 inhabitants. For 2010, 74,782 inhabitants were calculated. Members of the Tuareg sub-groups Iguimirdan, Mikitan and Tafazarak, who mainly practice agropastoralism , live in Droum .

Economy and Infrastructure

The community is located in a zone where rain-fed agriculture is practiced.
