Gouna is a rural municipality in the department Mirriah Department in Niger .

geography

Gouna is in the Sahel region . The neighboring communities are Zinder and Kolléram in the northwest, Mirriah in the northeast, Wacha in the southeast and Dogo in the southwest. The municipality is divided into 34 administrative villages, 40 traditional villages, 20 hamlets and three camps. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village of Gouna.

The seat of rule Gouna was attached to his sultanate Zinder , which belonged to the kingdom of Bornu , by Sultan Sélimane dan Tintouma around 1820 . In 1899 France occupied the Sultanate of Zinder, which it remained until Niger gained independence in 1960. The Gouna market was one of the small markets in the region that was authorized by the French administration at the beginning of the 20th century. The rural community of Gouna emerged from the canton of Gouna in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform. In the 2008 floods, 887 residents were classified as victims. 37 houses were destroyed and 37 fields were flooded.

At the 2001 census, Gouna had 39,700 inhabitants. For 2010, 53,902 inhabitants were calculated. Members of the Hausa subgroup Magouzawa, who practice arable farming, agropastoralism and remote grazing , and the Fulbe subgroup Bornanko'en, who specialize in remote grazing, live in Gouna .
