Dogo is a rural community in the Mirriah department in Niger .

Dogo market

Dogo lies at the transition from the large Sudan to the Sahel zone . The neighboring communities are Droum , Kolléram and Zinder in the north, Gouna in the east, Bandé and Dungass in the south and Matamèye and Yaouri in the west. The municipality is divided into 70 administrative villages, 86 hamlets and four camps. The main town of the rural municipality is Dogo, consisting of the administrative villages Dogo Chaibou and Dogo Maïkassoua.

The Forêt classée de Korama on Wadi Korama is a 900 hectare protected forest area in the municipality of Dogo. It was placed under protection in 1952.

history

The domination of Dogo was attached to his Sultanate Zinder , which belonged to the Bornu Empire , around 1820 by Sultan Sélimane dan Tintouma . In 1899 France occupied the Sultanate of Zinder, which it remained until Niger gained independence in 1960. The Dogo market was one of the small markets in the region that was authorized by the French administration at the beginning of the 20th century. The rural municipality of Dogo emerged from the canton of Dogo in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform. Over 1300 residents suffered material damage during the floods in 2008. 185 houses were completely destroyed and 74 fields were flooded.

At the 2001 census, Dogo had 61,551 inhabitants. For 2010, 83,570 inhabitants were calculated. Members of the Tuareg sub-groups Iguimirdan and Tafazarak, who mainly practice agropastoralism , live in Dogo .

Economy and Infrastructure

The community lies at the transition from the zone of rain-fed farming in the north to the zone of irrigated farming in the south. The national road 11 runs through Dogo and connects the town with the regional capital Zinder in the north and with the state border with Nigeria in the south.
