Bandé is a rural municipality in the department of Magaria in Niger .

geography

Bandé lies at the transition from the large Sudan to the Sahel zone . The neighboring communities are Dogo in the north, Dungass in the east, Dantchiao in the southeast, Magaria in the south, Kwaya in the southwest and Yaouri in the northwest. The municipality is divided into 78 administrative villages, 42 traditional villages, 142 hamlets and five camps. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village of Bandé (also: Bandé Haoussa).

Wadi Korama runs through Bandé . The Forêt classée de Karbala is a 950 hectare protected forest area in the municipality of Bandé. It was placed under protection in 1950.

history

Bandé was like other villages in the area around the place Magaria at the beginning of the 20th century in the British sphere of influence. In 1906, France received control of the region and in 1908 established a canton in Bandé. In 2002, as part of a nationwide administrative reform, the canton of Bandé became the rural community of Bandé.

population

At the 2001 census, Bandé had 59,203 inhabitants. For 2010, 80,378 inhabitants were calculated. In Bandé mainly arable Hausa and the Fulbe who specialize in agropastoralism live .

Economy and Infrastructure

The community is located in the narrow zone along the border with Nigeria , which extends from Tounouga in the west to Malawa in the east and is used in irrigation farming for cash crops . The national road 11 runs through Bandé, which connects the town with the regional capital Zinder in the north and the state border with Nigeria in the south.
