Dantchiao (also: Dan Tchiao , Dantchio ) is a rural community in the Magaria department in Niger .

geography

Dantchiao is located in the greater Sudan landscape and borders the neighboring state of Nigeria in the south . The neighboring communities in Niger are Bandé in the northwest, Dungass in the northeast, Dogo-Dogo in the southeast and Magaria in the west. The municipality is divided into 49 administrative villages, 16 traditional villages, 30 hamlets and 34 camps. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village of Dantchiao.

history

At the beginning of the 20th century, Dantchiao came under British control and from 1906 under French control. The French established a canton in Dantchiao in 1908 . In 2002, as part of a nationwide administrative reform, the canton of Dantchiao became the rural community of Dantchiao.

population

At the 2001 census, Dantchiao had 41,430 residents. For 2010, 56,245 inhabitants were calculated. Agricultural Hausa and Fulbe who specialize in agropastoralism live in Dantchiao .

Economy and Infrastructure

The community is located in the narrow zone along the border with Nigeria, which extends from Tounouga in the west to Malawa in the east and is used in irrigation farming for cash crops . National road 13 runs through Dantchiao and connects the town with the neighboring municipalities of Dungass and Magaria.
