geography

Tirmini is located in the Sahel zone . The neighboring municipalities are Falenko and Olléléwa in the north, Dakoussa and Zinder in the east, Droum and Ichirnawa in the south and Garagoumsa and Ourafane in the west. The municipality is divided into 97 administrative villages, 15 traditional villages and 52 hamlets. The main town of the rural municipality is the administrative village of Tirmini.

history

On July 29, 1899, the French mission Voulet-Chanoine defeated the powerful Sultanate of Zinder in the Battle of Tirmini. On July 30, 1899, the town of Zinder was taken without a fight. This was an important stage in the creation of the French Niger Colony. In Tirmini there is still a traditional seat of power ( French : chefferie traditionnelle ), which is subordinate to the Sultan of Zinder. The boss of Tirmini bears the title of ruler Barma .

The rural municipality of Tirmini emerged from the canton of Tirmini in 2002 as part of a state-wide administrative reform. Since 2011, the rural community no longer belongs to the Mirriah department , but to the newly founded Takeita department.

population

At the 2001 census, Tirmini had 69,356 inhabitants. For 2010, 94,164 inhabitants were calculated. In Tirmini nationals live mainly the Agropastoralismus operated Tuareg subgroups Mikitan and Tafazarak well as on remote pasture specialized Fulani subgroups Oudah'en and Wodaabe .

Economy and Infrastructure

Timini is only listed at a medium risk level in the early warning system for food crises, but in the event of a crisis - similar to the neighboring municipality of Olléléwa - it is an important starting point for aid distribution measures due to its connection to National Road 1 .
