Seneffe is a Belgian municipality in the province of Hainaut .

The municipality consists of the main town Seneffe, Arquennes, Familleureux, Feluy and Petit-Roeulx-lez-Nivelles.

history

During the Dutch War , on August 11, 1674, the Battle of Seneffe took place in the area around Seneffe . A French army under the Prince of Condé and an allied army of Spaniards, Dutch and troops of Emperor Leopold I under the command of William of Orange fought against each other. The losing battle ended in a draw, both sides claimed victory for themselves.

Culture and sights

There are many castles, palaces and fortified farms in the city and districts.

  • Le Château de Seneffe , built between 1763 and 1768 in the Seneffe Museum
  • Le Château Scrawelle a little north of Seneffe, was built in the Moorish style and is located in a park with exotic trees and plants - museum
  • Le Château de Miremont, built in the 19th century in the Renaissance style , is located a little outside of Feluy - private
  • Le Château de Feluy was built as a moated castle in the 14th century and converted into a magnificent moated castle in the 17th century. It stands in the center of Feluy - privately and used for events.
  • Le Château Trichon is in Feluy - private
  • Le Château Searon is a former Trappist monastery and is located in Feluy - private
  • Château de la Rocq was built in 1390 from a moated castle and was converted into a moated castle in the 17th century. It is in the Arquennes district. - private, but can be rented for events.
  • Le château de Familleureux a castle stood here as early as the 15th century, and the Familleureux family's castle is in the district with the same name
