Morlanwelz is a municipality in the province of Hainaut in the Walloon part of Belgium .

The municipality is located between Mons (a good 20 kilometers west) and Charleroi (about 20 kilometers east) and consists of the villages of Morlanwelz-Mariemont, Carnières and Mont-Sainte-Aldegonde .

From 1233 to 1796 there was the Cistercian abbey L'Olive in Morlanwelz .

Culture

The Royal Museum Mariemont has existed in Morlanwelz since 1917 and was the result of a private collection. There is also one of the 12 casts of the sculpture “ The Citizens of Calais ” by Auguste Rodin , which Rodin had himself made in 1905.
