Aiseau-Presles ( Walloon Åjhô-Préle ) is a municipality in the east of the Belgian province of Hainaut . It includes the localities of Aiseau, Pont-de-Loup, Roselies and Presles.
The neighboring municipalities of Aiseau-Presles are Châtelet , Farciennes , Fosses-la-Ville , Gerpinnes and Sambreville .
history
The place Aiseau was first mentioned in 952. An Augustinian monastery ( Abbaye d'Oignies ) was founded here in 1192 . Around 1250 Jakob von Vitry wrote his work De Vita beatae Mariae Oigniacensis about the beguines Maria von Oignies here. Mary had founded a beguinage in the same place, and after her death her tomb in the monastery became a pilgrimage site. The monastery was dissolved and sold during the French Revolution in 1796. After 1837 a glass factory was located in the monastery buildings. In 1973 the east wing of the monastery was completely destroyed in a fire.

Attractions
In the district of Pont-de-Loup, the tower of a Romanesque church from the late 11th century has been preserved. Also of interest is the castle of the d'Oultremont family in Presles, which was built in the 19th century. Like the English palace garden, however, it is not open to the public.
Parish partnership
