Reginald Kneifl

Reginald Kneifl , also Kneifel (born January 11, 1761 in Nieder Lindewiese , Austrian Silesia , † December 7, 1826 in Vienna ) was an Austrian scientist, teacher, librarian and author.

Live and act

After completing his studies, Kneifl entered the Piarist order . From 1804 he worked as a prefect in Auspitz ; During this time, Kneifl published a comprehensive description of the country of Austrian Silesia, based on the conscription from 1799, which helped him to become known throughout the country. In 1807 he succeeded Joseph August Schultes as professor of mineralogy and zoology at the Theresian Knight Academy in Vienna. Between 1813 and 1825, Kneifl was also the librarian at the Knight Academy. In the school year 1825/26 he worked as vice director of the Theresianum.

Kneifl wrote several natural science textbooks and is the author of a multi-volume description of the country of Austrian Silesia . He also rendered services to the Museum of the Theresianum, whose mineral collection he cataloged and described extensively.
