Písečná , until 1948 Sandhýbl (German Sandhübel ), is a municipality in the Okres Jeseník ( Czech Republic ).

geography

The village is located in the Bělá valley northeast of Jeseník at an altitude of 405 m above sea level. M. near the border with Poland .

history

The first mention of it comes from the year 1284, in which there is talk of a large village called Waltersdorf, which perished around 1420. Other sources report a desolate church. In 1373 hammer mills and ore mining are reported. This village was also abandoned in 1443. The place where the place stood was forested and only about a hundred years later it was repopulated, this time with the name Sandhübel. The population grew rapidly and after the Thirty Years War the place already had 40 farmers and 26 gardeners and cottagers . They were subordinates of the diocese of Breslau , who ran weaving and spinning mills in addition to agriculture. There was also a sawmill and a sand quarry in the village. By dividing the bishop's property, cold soaps were created in 1583, and the Hollunder colony was created after the mansion was divided up after 1772. In 1782, the first school was put into operation, which was expanded again in 1871 with a large increase in pupils. Most of the village in 1945 still belonged to the counts of the Matuschka-Toppolczan family, who left the village on the march of the Red Army in 1945.

At the beginning of the 19th century, many stone-processing companies with branches of large companies from Freiwaldau were established in the village. Mainly granite and marble were processed, as well as sand extraction. In 1846 a factory for the production of roofing felt and celluloid was added, as well as a sawmill with a mill in 1872 and an electricity plant with heat generation in 1927. In 1924 Studený Zejf and Chebzí were incorporated. On December 1, 1930 the community had 1639 inhabitants, on May 17, 1930 1652 and on May 22, 1947 there were 1031 inhabitants. After the Second World War and the expulsion of the German population, only a few companies were able to hold out. After the World War there was a factory for the production of tractor trailers and a machine factory in the village, which is now also being liquidated. At the moment only a stone processing company, an agricultural wholesale, a mill, scrap metal trade and a distillery remain.

After the Munich Agreement , the place was added to the German Empire and until 1945 belonged to the Freiwaldau district . The Czech name, introduced in 1948, is derived from the German Sandhübel .

In 1997 the place was badly damaged by the flood of the century.
