The Jeskyně Na Pomezí (German Höhle Am Gemärk ) is a karst cave in the Czech Republic . It is located two kilometers north of Lipová-lázně on the Vápenná corridors in the Reichensteiner Mountains .

geography

The cave is located on the Na Pomezí pass ( Gemärk ) southwest of the Studniční vrch ( Nesselkoppe , 991 m) in the Oberlindewieser Uplands ( Hornilipovská hornatina ) near the source of the Vidnavka at about 600 m above sea level. The state road 60 and the Lipová Lázně – Javorník railway line with the Lipová Lázně jeskyně stop pass by the cave .

history

At the Gemärk there is a deposit of Silesian marble. During blasting work in the neighboring quarry in 1936, an opening in the slope was uncovered, behind which there was access to a stalactite cave . The cave was only accessible a few meters and was therefore not preserved. During this time, visitors lost the stalactites in the entrance area.

In 1949 the cave was examined for the first time by geologists with previous knowledge from investigations of the Moravian Karst , after finding further rooms secured with stalactites and handed over to the Okres Jeseník . In the following year, the first part of the cave was made accessible to the public and opened on May 16, 1950. By 1955, a new entrance and exit had been created, electrical lighting was installed and additional rooms opened up for visitors.

The Na Pomezí cave is 530 m long and open to the public. Overall, the cave system has an extension of over a kilometer.

The cave was created by washing out and the associated dissolution of the marble rock in the penetrating surface water and was previously flown through by the Vidnavka, whose course is 21 m above the cave floor today. Inside there are vortex pots , stalagmites , stalactites and spherulites . The most important rooms are the Ice Dome ( Ledový dóm ), the Weeping Willow Dome ( Dóm u smuteční vrby ), the route of the Roman Baths ( chodba Římských lázní ), the White Dome ( Bílý dóm ), the King's Chimney ( Královský komín ), the Treasury ( Klenotnice ) and the entrance dome ( Vstupní dóm ). The cave is characterized by narrow, sometimes high crevasses. Due to the influx of water and its moisture, the cave is one of the living caves. The penetrating water creates sinter deposits and leads to the formation and enlargement of the varied sintering phenomena . One of the most recent structures is the stalactite curtain of the Petrified Dog, which stood around a branch that was washed in. At the same time, cave pearls were formed. During the winter months, the cave serves as a frequented shelter for bats .
