Vosswinkel is a 13.965 km² district of Arnsberg in the Hochsauerlandkreis ( North Rhine-Westphalia ) with 2399 inhabitants. The population density is therefore 175 inhabitants per km².

The place name is made up of the basic word "Winkel", which denotes remote or delimited places or "corners", and the Low German word "Voss" for fox. Vosswinkel thus describes a remote place, for which the occurrence of foxes was characteristic.

location

Vosswinkel viewed from the south
Vosswinkel viewed from the north

Vosswinkel is located south-west of the course of the Ruhr between Neheim and Wickede (Ruhr) . Within the city of Arnsberg, Vosswinkel borders on the districts of Bachum and Holzen , outside of Arnsberg on the places Wimbern and Echthausen , which belong to the municipality of Wickede (Ruhr) and the district of Soest . In the west and south of the village the place borders on the Lüerwald , a large forest and nature reserve between the city of Arnsberg and the city of Menden ( Märkischer Kreis ).

In addition to the town center, Vosswinkel includes the groups of houses Bellingsen, Stockey , Höllinghofen, Bürmann, im Schee and Voßwinkel-Alter Bahnhof, as well as the Haarhof and the forest houses "an der Sägemühle".

The highest point of Vosswinkel is the Hensenberg at 302  m above sea level. NN , the lowest point (and at the same time the lowest point of the Hochsauerlandkreis) can be found on the Ruhraue, west of the Ruhr near Haus Füchten . This is at an altitude of at least 146  m above sea level. NN .

A curiosity is the “Vosswinkeler drop”. In the south of the village, south of Kerkenbusch , the western and eastern borders approach each other to just over 8 m. About 750 m further south, the local area of Vosswinkel widens again to about 340 m and then narrows again to a width of 150 m up to the southern border approx. 150 m away (same street Bieberkamp ). This creates the shape of a drop on the map of the place at the southern tip .

Another specialty of Vosswinkel is the peripheral location in the Hochsauerlandkreis with the intersection of borders to two other districts to the so-called "three circle point". What is meant is the westernmost border point Vosswinkel, which is also the common border point of the Hochsauerlandkreis, the Märkischer Kreis and the Soest district. It is located in Wimbern in the Lütkenheide , in Oesbern am Bockstall and in Voßwinkel southwest of the Hainenberg near the Oesber Bach . In 1970 the border point at the "Wickeder Schnad" was marked by a Schnadestein. In 2008, the municipalities of Arnsberg, Menden and Wickede erected a memorial stone and a bench at the end of the joint ILEK process forest, water, economy .

history

Local history

It was first mentioned in a document in 1187 . Here, in a document from Archbishop Philipp, a Gerhardus de Vosswinckele appears as a witness. Named: Lubert von Voßwinkel, who owned Odenhausen (near Neheim) as a fief . In 1214 the church of Voßwinkel is mentioned for the first time in a document from the Oelinghausen monastery . Furthermore, in a document from the dean Heinrich von Iserlohn from 1231, the pastor Elricus de Vosswinckele is among the other witnesses. Already in the time of the Counts of Arnsberg , Vosswinkel had its own parish, which remained part of the Hüsten parish for a long time . In further documents Heinrich von Voßwinkel, as brother of the provost von Marsberg and another Heinrich von Voßwinkel, who donated a forest to the monastery Oelinghausen in 1295 , are mentioned.

One of the origins of the place was the Wiethoff, which was inhabited by the noble von Voßwinkel family. The first farms included the Haarhof, the Niederhof (Gut Nierhof), which belonged to the Freseken family in 1344, the Höllinghofen family and farms belonging to the Blumenthal, von Plettenberg , von Bredenol and von Boynen families .

The Oelinghausen monastery owned the Vosswinkeler Flur for many years. In 1328 it acquired a Hufe Vosswinkeler country, in 1413 a closed estate, the so-called "Dreckhof" and in 1475 nine acres of arable land. In 1387 a barn "in the churchyard" at Vosswinkel is mentioned among the monastery's possessions, which is left to the respective pastor for use. The "Dreckhof" was owned by the monastery for centuries and has always been leased. The leaseholder had to pay a one-off inheritance profit, but after the Thirty Years' War the monastery also demanded "common" profit. In lifting register of the convent of 1657 states that "Although born Current Dreckhof ... the monastery volschuldigh and serf, the court must still be as gewunnen country in use". The Haarhof was also owned by the Oelinghausen monastery, because in the register it says “How the current colonus vom harhoff is serf, but must win completely or halfway every 12 years or as is customary and as often as one of the owners dies. "

Since the middle of the 14th century, the Wulffe von Lüdinghausen appear as castle men from Neheim in possession of the main courtyard in Voßwinkel. In 1364 Heinrich Wulf von Lüdinghausen received the main courtyard as a fief. A descendant of Heinrich Wulf was enfeoffed by the archbishop in 1415 with the castle fief in Neheim and the court and timber court at Vosswinkel. The Wulfe later lived at Haus Füchten , which they had obtained by marrying the von Uffeln near Werl . A heiress of this family married Arnold Christoph von der Horst, who received the castle loan at Neheim in 1678 , the court at Voßwinkel, court and wood court and the archbishop's services at Voßwinkel. In 1695 the son Arnold Friedrich was able to sell the Vosswinkel fiefdom to his brother-in-law von Droste zu Amecke for 1000 talers with the permission of the elector. The descendants of the latter owned the goods and rights until the extinction of their line at the end of the 18th century.

Vosswinkel around 1827

Vosswinkel was part of the administration of the Archbishops of Cologne in the Duchy of Westphalia for almost 400 years as the manor in the Werl quarter. On October 6, 1802, troops of Grand Duke Ludwig X of Hesse-Darmstadt occupied the Sauerland region of Cologne as compensation for the areas on the left bank of the Rhine that had been lost to Napoleon . As part of the reorganization of its possessions Voßwinkel and Bachum came with the patrimonial Voßwinkel the house Füchten belonging dwellings Voßwinkel, Haarhof, Nierhof, Höllinghofen, and the colonists on the Höllinghofer Heide throughout the 512 residents on September 22, 1807 Office Menden .

Today's Bundesstrasse 7 (Vosswinkeler Strasse), then the Chaussee vom Schlünder , was built by the Hessians . The rule of Ludwig X lasted only 13 years, because after the Congress of Vienna on January 30, 1816, the Duchy of Westphalia was handed over to the Prussians . The parish of Vosswinkel came to the Crown of Prussia on July 15, 1816, and to the Iserlohn district (which included the town and the Menden district, among other things) in 1817 , but then to the Arnsberg district on January 1, 1819 . In 1837 the office of Hüsten was re-established as a separate administrative district and the inmates of the 16 parishes of the three parishes of Hüsten, Vosswinkel and Enkhausen came to the official seat of Mayor Rühl in Hüsten . With the Prussian rural community order of 1841, a local council with a mayor appointed by the district administrator was elected in Vosswinkel from the two privileged classes, the heirs and the knightly estate owners . From 1830 to 1880, in seven different so-called recesses, the trademark division and the replacement of the Huderechte in Vosswinkel and the neighboring communities took place with great legal effort

Until the second half of the 19th century, Vosswinkel was a purely rural community , with the exception of smaller brickworks that made bricks and roof tiles from Vosswinkel clay slate . In the course of industrialization, the residents who were not on their own land or in the service of Boeselager's estate management / Schloss Höllinghofen had to walk long distances to work in the up-and-coming neighboring communities of Neheim, Hüsten and Wickede. This changed when, in 1871, the brothers Theodor and Egon Cosack built the first notable factory for Vosswinkel almost opposite the St. Urbanus Church. Up until 1921, upholstery nails were produced there with over 100 employees, after which the company switched to the production of cardboard boxes .

On November 9, 1885, the savings and loan fund for Vosswinkel, Bachum and Wimbern was founded as a cooperative bank based on the Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen system by merging 78 bank members.

On April 1, 1886, the place got a so-called post office for the lower village, which was continued from April 1, 1892 with expansion to all village areas as a postal agency of the Reichspost . On June 13, 1894, the Neheim-Vosswinkel telegraph line went into operation.

In 1897 Voßwinkel received its own station on the upper Ruhr Valley Railway and the larger ring kiln brickworks built near the station in 1900 received its own connection. At the same time, a branch of the Louis Arens company from Menden was established at the train station , which with 40 workers mainly manufactured upholstery nails - as did the companies "Wittmann" and "Schäfer" on Alscherstraße . On July 13, 1899, the first bakery ( Voss bakery , today Coerdt bakery ) went into operation.

On October 24, 1921, Vosswinkel was connected to the electrical network, which cost the community 400,000 Reichsmarks. The amount was mainly raised through donations from the house of Boeselager at Schloss Höllinghofen and from companies, hunting tenants and farmers.

In 1938, the Rittinghaus Söhne toolmaking facility (today's building of the Stock Industrie- und Hallenbau company) was built as a further larger factory in the middle of the village on Südstraße and expanded in 1939.

During the Second World War , a camp of the Organization Todt (OT camp) with forced labor was built in the area of the train station , probably for clean-up work in the context of the Möhne disaster . Other camps were in Höllinghofen and from 1942 to 1945 in the middle of the village in the Schlüter building for forced laborers from Cosack Kartonagen and Rittinghaus & Sons. On April 14, 1945, Vosswinkel was occupied by American troops. During the war there was only one civilian population in Vosswinkel who died in a bomb attack. A member of the Todt organization was fatally injured in a low-flying attack on the station area in early April 1945. He was buried in the Vosswinkel cemetery.

After the Second World War, the number of inhabitants grew, in particular due to the admission of 350 refugees from the eastern regions, most of whom remained in the area. The “Am Stakelberg” (formerly Sonnenufer ) settlement was built in the early 1950s , and the “Höggenbach” settlement (lower Alscherstraße ) was added in the 1960s .

In 1951 the water pipeline was built and today's Vosswinkeler Straße was given a connection for the gas network. Also in 1951 was the stately new building of the brick factory at the train station.

In 1969 the place got a completely new face, because the federal highway 7, running as a thoroughfare, was completely rebuilt. The large linden trees to the right and left of the street, which created the character of an avenue, were felled, the street was widened, sidewalks were laid on both sides and parallel parking strips were built along a large length.

With the municipal reorganization on January 1, 1975, the municipality of Vosswinkel lost its independence and was incorporated into today's city of Arnsberg as a district.

A special change in the townscape and character took place in 1982 with the demolition of the Cosack cardboard box factory in the middle of the town and its relocation to the neighboring industrial area of Bergheim. The redevelopment of the town center, as well as the expanding reasons for the Cosack company, were decisive for this step. It then took eight years until the fallow land was built with houses, a small square with benches and a village fountain and inaugurated in 1990. This center of the village bears the name "Terrain Cosack" or "Cosack'sches Terrain" both in official languages and in popular parlance. On said site there is now an apartment building with apartments on the upper floor and a bakery and a self-service branch of the Sparkasse on the ground floor.

In 2012 the district celebrated its 825th anniversary with extensive activities and festivities.

Economy and Infrastructure

traffic

Vosswinkel is located on the federal road B7called Vosswinkeler Straße , which crosses the entire place for almost two kilometers. The average daily traffic volume of all days of the year on this main thoroughfare is Voßwinkel in with a heavy traffic of .

Other supraregional connections are a state road L 732 , the Echthauser Straße with (from the Haus Füchten junction, part of the Deutsche Alleenstraße ) and a district road K 22 , the Füchtener Straße with and the street Zum Flugplatz with . Since the 1970s, a gap in the federal motorway between the cities of Hemer and Arnsberg-Neheim has been planned, which, according to the planning, should touch the place in the north. A46

On the public transport is Voßwinkel by bus lines C5 , or at night from Saturday to Sunday on the bus line N5 , (to and from the direction of Arnsberg-Neheim) of the regional transport Ruhr-Lippe GmbH (RLG) and the line 611 (to and from the direction Wickede -Ruhr) of the Verkehrsgesellschaft Breitenbach GmbH. The R46 bus , which connects Neheim with Wickede (Ruhr), also stops at the Voßwinkel train station . The Voßwinkel station has been closed since December 17, 1983 - also as a Bundesbahn stop on the upper Ruhr Valley Railway .

On October 28, 2015, a "rider's bench" was placed in the village and given a sign with the destination " Neheim " on it. If a person sits on it, the driver of the passing vehicle knows that this person is looking for a ride to Neheim. A bench for the way back to Vosswinkel is also planned.

On the eastern edge of the village the supraregional RuhrtalRadweg and in the south the NRW long-distance cycle route R12 " Venlo - Bad Arolsen " as well as the main hiking route Ruhrhöhenweg and the district circular route Middle Sauerland of the Sauerland Mountain Association run through Vosswinkel.

The Arnsberg-Menden airfield is on the northern edge of Vosswinkel .

Public facilities

The following are to be mentioned in Voßwinkel public facilities:

  • St. Urbanus Kindergarten
The establishment of the St. Urbanus Kindergarten goes back to the conditions during the Second World War. Since many mothers had to work in the factories, their children needed all-day care. The local National Socialist People's Welfare Association (NSV) therefore founded the “Vosswinkeler NSV Kindergarten” in 1940 in the 70 m² refreshment hall next to the Schützen fairground . The Schützenplatz served as a playground for the youth .
After the war, the Americans allowed the then Catholic pastor Lohoff to take over the kindergarten as a free facility. In 1949 the Catholic Church took over the kindergarten under the direction of the nun Thadäa. On November 7, 1965, a new building was inaugurated, in which the St. Urbanus Kindergarten with a total of three groups still exists today.
  • Children's playgrounds
In Voßwinkel there is a central children's playground for all age groups at the primary school, a toddler playground on Georgstrasse and a “residential area playground ” in the “Kugel Kamp” residential area. In autumn 2009 a new playground (“Pirate Playground”) was built in the residential area “To the Seven Footfalls”.
  • Urbanus School Vosswinkel
Urbanus School
The first reliable news about a school in Vosswinkel can be traced back to school files from the years 1794 to 1802, which contain so-called visitations by commissioned venerable gentlemen ( Ho. Commisari fisitate ) of the school. There was a close connection between church and school, as the respective pastor was responsible for supervising teachers and school, but Haus Füchten exercised the patronage . The school stood in the garden of the Vosswinkeler Strasse property at the entrance to Füchtener Strasse and consisted of a classroom and a room for storing firewood. In 1861, the church and the political community jointly acquired a farmhouse next to the church and converted it into a school with a teacher and sexton apartment.
When a second school job became necessary, the parish bought a plot of land on the Höggen (today's Alscherstraße / corner of Georgstraße ) from the local pastor in 1878 and built the “girls' school” on it. Until 1889 the communities Vosswinkel and Bachum formed a school association. In 1910 the girls' school was expanded, the school at the church was abandoned or converted into a teacher's apartment and girls and boys were taught together in the expanded primary school.
Because of the limited space, a new school - today's - was built in the spring of 1964 on the former sports field and was inaugurated on October 7, 1966.
Since April 16, 1992, the Catholic Confessional Primary School has been called "Urbanusschule Voßwinkel". In the school year 2014/15 there were a total of 107 students in four classes. According to the school development plan of the city of Arnsberg, the number of pupils will increase to 112 pupils in 5 classes for the 2019/20 school year. The school runs grades 1 and 2 and, since 2012/13, grades 3 and 4 across grades.
  • Youth facilities
Until December 31, 2013 there was a youth room in the Schützenhalle as a youth leisure center without full-time management, sponsored by the Schützenbruderschaft St. Johannes Baptist Voßwinkel . The youth room was run as a municipal youth work offer in the form of a partially open door (TOT). Since January 1, 2014 there are no more communal youth rooms in Voßwinkel.
  • Sport and freetime
Affiliated to the Urbanus School Vosswinkel, but also publicly available through associations, is a teaching pool and a gym . On the southwestern outskirts there is a public sports field (artificial turf soccer field, street soccer field, beach volleyball field) and smaller athletics facilities. In the same area there is a 1.5 hectare recreational area called Höppen Kopp (bird pole , boules pitch, Easter fire place) , which was inaugurated on June 18, 2011 .
Club owned - but generally publicly available through clubs - are the shooting hall, three tennis courts , two riding halls and several riding arenas as well as a motocross track.
There is a meeting place for the elderly and a publicly accessible (Catholic) library in the parish hall.
  • Credit institutions
In Voßwinkel there is a branch of Volksbank Sauerland eG and a self-service branch of Sparkasse Arnsberg-Sundern .
  • Fire protection, rescue and healthcare
In normal cases, fire protection is guaranteed by the local volunteer fire brigade with its own fire station in the village. Emergency care is provided by the emergency doctor or the rescue services from Wickede-Wimbern and the hospitals in Arnsberg.
A resident doctor or dentist is not available in town. There is also no pharmacy .
  • graveyards
In the center of the village there is an old church (Catholic) cemetery , whose occupancy rights expire and are therefore no longer used. Outside the center, in the south of the village, a new municipal cemetery was set up in 1971 .

Land-use planning in Voßwinkel

In Voßwinkel there are the development plans “V1 Hoeggenbach”, “V2 Triftweg”, “V5 Voßwinkel-Ortsmitte”, “V6 Waldemey” and “V8 Zu den Sieben Fußfälle”, which cover approx. 20 hectares as well as the development plans "V13 Gut Nierhof II" (commercial area) and "V15 Motocross area" (sports area). All other structural options are based on the so-called “ interior area ” according to Section 34 of the Building Code “Permissibility of projects within the districts built on in connection”, which covers a total of over 20 hectares.

The residential building land potential in Vosswinkel is 25 plots in the development plan areas. In the unplanned interior area, almost 120 vacant lots or areas ready for construction are available for development. However, since there are considerable mobilization problems for these areas, only around 25% of the vacant lots = 30 plots can actually be expected for real short-term residential development. A total of 55 plots are available for residential development in Voßwinkel.

According to the current zoning plan, the potential for residential building land is 5.2 ha.

Overall, the structural development of Vosswinkel is disrupted by a 110 kV high-voltage line from RWE with a total of seven masts, which runs from Unna to Neheim through the southern part of Vosswinkel and was built in 1935. For the construction of residential buildings, distances of up to 20 m must be taken into account on both sides of the line, so that these areas are not available for residential development.

On Vosswinkeler Strasse in the center around the St. Urbanus Church is the central supply area "Vosswinkel local supply center" defined in the 2010 zoning plan.

Companies

Vosswinkel has a rural character, although the number of farmers has decreased significantly in recent years. There is still a full-time farmer. As a sideline, 8 farms operate in agriculture .

The following commercial operations are in place: beverage wholesalers, industrial and hall construction , carpentry and sawmills , various suppliers for the lighting industry, forestry , joineries , roofers , several plumbing and heating engineers and other smaller craft businesses, engineering offices , three restaurants and pubs, two bakeries and other facilities for immediate local supply . A total of around 350 jobs are available in the village.

A total of 40 beds are available in two hotels ( airfield hotel and Waldschlößchen ) for tourism or overnight stays in town .

In 2003 the village after lengthy negotiations was to the east, a 19.2  hectare large industrial and business park (Gewerbegebiet Good Nierhof II ) was established. All plots have now been assigned.

Since 2018, the development plan V3 "Gut Nierhof I" with 16ha planning area and approx. 7ha of commercial space legally binding, the development plan "Gut Nierhof III" with approx. 6.9ha of commercial space is also in the list. The plots are marketed by the city of Arnsberg or its economic development agency (WFA).

Other infrastructure facilities

With the construction of the Ruhrverband's Neheim II sewage treatment plant in 1986, Vosswinkel was connected to the public sewer system . Until then, the wastewater was almost exclusively via so-called " mayor canals " (colloquial for sewer sections in rural areas, which have mostly grown "organically" in the context of road and path construction, but whose receiving water is usually a stream or river) without clarification derived.

The drinking water supply is provided by the Echthausen waterworks of the Westphalia waterworks via the Arnsberg municipal works. The electricity and gas supply is ensured via RWE lines.

Buildings and landmarks

St. Urbanus Church

St. Urbanus Church

In the center of Vosswinkel is the St. Urbanus Church , which was first mentioned in 1214 in a document from the Oelinghausen monastery , which deals with the settlement of a dispute. In a document from the dean Heinrich von Iserlohn from 1231, the pastor Elricus de Vosswinckele is named in the series of witnesses. At this time there must have already been a parish in Vosswinkel, so that the beginning of the St. Urbanus Church probably goes back further than the 13th century ( First Church ).

In a feud that took place around 1420 between Count Adolf von der Mark and the owners of Haus Höllinghofen , the brothers Wennemar and Friedrich von Fürstenberg, the village and the church of Vosswinkel were burned down. A new church was built and consecrated on November 1, 1425 ( Second Church ). This church was enlarged in 1710 after some renovations.

The construction of today's Catholic parish church St. Urbanus ( Third Church ) began in 1750 under the pastor Heinrich Everhard Pentling (* February 19, 1720, † August 5, 1794) after a fire destroyed the previous building in 1749. The building was only consecrated in 1765 by the abbot of the Wedinghausen monastery, made more difficult by the effects of the Seven Years' War .

With the population growth, an extension was built between 1888 and 1900. A new extension was built in 1938 by the architect Josef Ferber . An extensive renovation of the church began in 2002 and was completed with a large celebration on April 6, 2003.

A special feature is the modern painting of the old church by the artist Tobias Kammerer from Rottweil during the renovation carried out in 2003. He also designed the new window in the choir of the so-called “Weekday Church”, the historical part of the building. A church guild offers regular tours through the historic church with its modern facilities.

Catholic rectory

Catholic rectory

Opposite the St. Urbanus Church is the old Catholic, early Classicist rectory (Vosswinkel) . It is a two-storey hipped eaves house with red roof tiles, a green front door and a slate-covered west side.

When the church burned in 1749, the old rectory was also destroyed and, like the church, it was probably rebuilt on the old foundation from 1750 to 1752. In the early 1980s, the listed building was extensively renovated. The half-timbered facade was restored in the traditional way with partitions made of clay and rod mesh.

In 1986 it was found that the house was infested with brass beetles (Niptus hololeucus, a type of thief beetle ), which were only successfully combated after many years of attempted destruction - when the house was empty. From 1998 to August 1, 2012 the rectory was inhabited by the local pastor or used as a rectory. On February 1, 2013 the house was sold by the parish and is now privately owned.

cenotaph

Cenotaph in 2008

On the so-called Haarhof on the southern edge of the forest of Vosswinkel is the memorial erected in 1960 , a memorial for the fallen and dead of the two world wars. Inside the memorial there is a statue of Our Lady of Sorrows.

At the same place there used to be a little house of the Mother of God as a warrior memorial chapel, which was built in 1890 by the Voßwinkel Warrior and Landwehr Support Association to commemorate the four fallen soldiers in the war of 1870/71 .

To commemorate the 33 fallen soldiers from Vosswinkel in the First World War, a copper plaque with the names of the fallen soldiers was first made in 1923 and placed in the parish church. Then a memorial was erected by the Voßwinkel Warrior Comradeship for these fallen soldiers on the corner of Haarhofstrasse and Voßwinkeler Strasse (today's street name) according to a plan by the architect Veruss from Hüsten . fetched from the church and attached to the memorial. Due to the increasing volume of traffic on the adjacent main road, the memorial was torn down in 1960, a parking lot was created there and the new memorial was built using stones and the old plaque from the old memorial.

Old graveyard

Entrance gate to the old cemetery

On the street “Zum Alten Friedhof” there is an old Catholic cemetery from the 19th century. The cemetery is fenced in with a hornbeam hedge . The last burial took place in 2006 due to old occupancy rights. Three objects in the Old Cemetery are of particular importance:

  • A cemetery cross with a neo-Gothic body, framed in color in the three-nail type, erected around 1920
  • Tomb of Pastor Felder (1829–1904): tree cross on grotto architecture, neo-Renaissance grave border in wrought iron
  • The von Boeselager memorial cross: a marble grave slab in front of a simple wooden cross

Chapels

St. Benedict Chapel on Höllinghofen

The following chapels are designated as cultural monuments in Vosswinkel :

  • In Höllinghofen the grave chapel of St. Benediktus , which was completed in October 1923 and stands in the middle of the landscape garden of Höllinghofen Castle. The deceased members of the von Boeselager house are buried in the St. Benedict Chapel.
  • A path chapel on Franziskusstraße / Triftweg, which, according to the inscription, was donated as a neo-Gothic brick wayside shrine in 1885 by the Voßwinkel shooting society. In the barred niche of the wayside chapel stands St. Anthony on an altar plate. To protect against the storms of the world , a linden tree was later planted to the right and left of the chapel. The wayside chapel is the first stop in the annual Jacobus procession. Until 1960, the old bird pole stood directly behind the wayside chapel. On the Saturday of the Schützenfest, the rifle brothers march to this Antonius house with music in front of the hanging of the rifle bird and a short prayer is said to avert misfortune when shooting birds on the following Monday.
  • A path chapel on Heiligenhausstrasse, also made of brick, was built in 1933 on the basis of a vow made by the property owner at the time, who survived a serious illness. Inside the wayside chapel is a statue of Our Lady .
  • A wayside chapel on the corner of Alscherstrasse and Georgstrasse. It is the Agatha house, which was built in place of the holy house on the opposite side that was demolished in 1967 due to road expansion and was inaugurated on July 27, 1997. Saint Agatha stands in the niche . The house is an anniversary gift from the Kolping Family for the 50th anniversary of its existence and serves as a processional chapel as the third stop in the St. James procession.
  • A wayside chapel at Bellingser Weg 22 as a saint's house made of stone, the front plastered, the image of the Mother of God in the barred niche. The holy house was built on the basis of a vow made by the then property owner, Helling, if he would return safely from a trip to America. The construction of the sanctuary was only carried out by the heirs to fulfill the promise, probably around 1890.
  • A saint's house at Franziskusstraße 7 in the front garden, built in 1920 on the basis of a vow from the First World War in honor of the patron saint Joseph .

Way of the Cross "Seven Footfalls"

In the Höllinghofer Heide on a branch path to Voßwinkeler Straße there is a way of the cross with six stations of simple concrete steles and a high wooden cross on an altar, called the " Seven Footfalls ". As early as the early 1800s, a large stone cross with a life-size body was erected, which, however, fell apart over time and was replaced by a simple wooden cross.

The Way of the Cross itself was laid out in the 1930s and is connected to an old chestnut avenue . During the Second World War, Nazi thugs destroyed the faces of the Jews in the pictures of the concrete steles. After the war, the von Boeselager family renewed the facility. During the Corpus Christi procession, the “Seven Footfalls” Way of the Cross is the second stop.

Crossroads

Arma-Christi-Kreuz in Vosswinkel

The strong Catholic orientation of the village Vosswinkel also makes the large number of crossroads clear:

  • In Bellingsen a family cross in memory of the deceased members of the Danne-Rasche family
  • At Bellingser Weg 5 on the occasion of a silver wedding in 1960
  • In front of the kindergarten (formerly on the other side of the street on the property of the Heymer farm)
  • At the entrance to Vosswinkel on the main road from Neheim there is an Arma-Christi cross , erected after the German War in 1866 by Heinrich Deimel on the basis of a vow if he returns healthy from the war.
  • At Siepenstraße 2, which stood before 1900 on the site of today's cemetery.
  • On Heiligenhausstrasse, known as "Hüns Kreuz", derived from the owner of the former Hünshof.
  • At the corner of Füchtener Strasse and Heiligenhausstrasse, a neo-Gothic crucifix, erected in 1936. According to tradition, a cross is said to have stood here on the property of the Stute farm that burned down between 1921 and 1930.
  • On the Wiedhofsweide a widely visible crossroad as a landscape landmark with a neo-Gothic altar-like base made of quarry stone from the 1860s. Probably built specifically as (at that time) the third station of the Corpus Christi procession.
  • On Vosswinkeler Strasse, near the Bellingser Weg junction on the Kneer farm (formerly Rohe) in memory of an ancestor of the Rohe family who emigrated to America.
  • A mission cross in front of the parish church.
  • A total of four crossroads on the old Kirchweg between Voßwinkel and Echthausen, probably created between 1663 and 1896, as the people of Echthausen belonged to the parish of Voßwinkel at this time.

Memorial of the building of the wall

South of Vosswinkel in the Hassbachtal, a memorial was erected in 1962 to commemorate the construction of the Berlin Wall and blessed by the then pastor Schultz. It received or bears the name "Maria - Queen of Peace".

Hünenbräuken Castle

To the south of Vosswinkel, in the corner between Oestingsiepen and a Nebensiepen moving north from the Lütge Mark, are the remains of a small medieval castle seat in the form of a well-preserved tower hill, called Hünenbräuken . The "Hünenbräuken" is a common type of castle that is often found in the mountains. It is determined by the fact that by creating a ditch, the so-called neck ditch , the actual castle square was separated from the natural surrounding area. This old fortification has been on the list of archaeological monuments since 1991 .

Village fountain

Fountain in the village square

In the center of the village on Vosswinkeler Strasse, which was inaugurated on September 29, 1990, a village fountain was added on November 19, 1990 .

It is made of cast hexagonal artificial stone. A bronze sculpture sits on the edge of the fountain , which - analogous to the place name - represents a "fox in a corner". The fountain and sculpture were created by the artist Christa Wuttke.

From various minutes of the Vosswinkel municipal council it can be seen that a so-called fire brigade plan was drawn up several times between 1920 and 1941, but due to the unfavorable financial situation of the municipality, whose syringe house exists with a syringe, the approval of high expenditures does not permit and the economic circumstances and the lack of water make it impossible to call a fire brigade that complies with the regulations . It was not until March 1941 that the fire brigade was officially re-established by the then mayor Franz Neuhaus. His call to the men from 17 to 55 years of age for the founding meeting had the success that the Unger Hall was filled to the last seat…. 31 men immediately registered as members . In April 1973, the old syringe house was given up and a new fire station with three large garages and a training room on Vosswinkeler Strasse was occupied.
