history

The name of the place is derived from Breiter Bruch . The village was first verifiably mentioned in 1819 in a statistic in which it is stated as belonging to Untrop (Uentrop). Of the 13 houses with 167 Catholics, two must have belonged to the area of the later Breitenbruch. The place Alt-Breitenbruch, which was made up of the houses used for forest purposes, still exists today.

There are also a number of restaurants and restaurants in Breitenbruch, as well as a Catholic chapel dedicated to Nikolaus von Flüe . The plan is in the shape of a Greek cross . The chapel was founded on October 29, 1963 benediziert . An extensive renovation was carried out in 1987, during which the sanctuary was also redesigned in accordance with the liturgy.
