Herdringen is a district of Arnsberg in North Rhine-Westphalia with 3862 inhabitants.
geography
The Herdringen district is located south of the Neheim and Hüsten districts in the north-west of the city of Arnsberg. The proximity to the main center Neheim and the secondary center Hüsten is advantageous. Although Herdringen is located in a very rural area of the province, the district is also an important location for business settlements due to the “Wiebelsheide” industrial park.
history
history
Herdringen was probably founded in the 9th century. At that time Hustanne (today: Hüsten) was in the border area between the Westphalia and Engern. A clearing period began there, which was completed around 900 AD. Numerous places were created in the Hüstener Mark, which ended with "Hausen". One of these new foundations was called Herdringhausen, which developed into a group settlement.
Herdringen was mentioned for the first time around 860 AD in sources of the Corvey monastery . There is no doubt that the names "hetrungun" and "hattrungun" written there meant the settlement of Herdringen. In 1376 the manor Herdringen, which later became Herdringen Castle, was named for the first time. An Egbert von Herdringen (later called Schade) was mentioned in 1196. As a result, the estate and the associated farms changed hands several times. The von Fürstenberg family has been based in Herdringen since 1618 .
Incorporation
Until it was incorporated into the city of Arnsberg according to the provisions of the Sauerland-Paderborn law, Herdringen was an independent municipality in the office of Hüsten, whose administrative tasks were taken over by the cities of Arnsberg and Sundern. On January 1, 1975, Herdringen was incorporated into the city of Arnsberg with another twelve communities.

coat of arms
Blazon
Divided by red and gold, above a golden T-shaped cross growing on the dividing line, on each of whose arms a bell hangs, below two red bars.
The cross and the two bells are symbols of Saint Anthony as the patron saint of Herdringen. The two red bars on a golden background are taken from the coat of arms of the Barons von Fürstenberg, who have lived here since 1618. The official approval took place on January 21, 1965. |
