history

The club was founded in 1949 from a group of amateur actors from the Catholic village youth movement, which was founded shortly after the Second World War under Father Theo Thüte. At first they played in the restaurant "Schmidt's Hof" until 1952. The first major piece of 1949 was "The Prodigal Son" by Erich Eckert under the GM Anton Funke from Hamm-Heesen . In 1953, the Herdringer Schützenhalle served as a venue for the performance of “Beggar Before the Cross” by “Paul Wanner”. The association is now registered in the association register.

The first open-air season began in 1954 with the production of “ Wilhelm Tell ” by Friedrich Schiller . The spectator stand was roofed on supports the following year.

Until the end of the 1960s, mystery games, classics, and occasionally comedy games and fairy tales were presented. In 1970 the number of visitors had dropped to 2,800 after fifteen performances. After such a significant decline in attendance was noted, in the mid-1960s they were still over 10,000 with an average of twenty performances, the new focus was placed on children's theater.

In the following years the number of visitors increased again. In 1982, for example, they were around 13,400 (twenty-two performances). The number of actors had also increased, so that from 1983 onwards, two productions could regularly be performed in the season, a comedy and a children's play. In the previous years there were only two performances in 1978. In 1979, when Otfried Preussler performed “ News from the Robber Hotzenplotz ” , pyrotechnic tricks in the form of fog were used for the first time .

Grandstand and scenery

A new grandstand with almost self-supporting laminated beams could dachkonstruktion before the game in 1993 after more than ten years of planning are completed. Construction began at the end of the 1992 season. Specially equipped technical rooms were also built, which were adapted to the requirements in the following years.

The 2006 program included the " Robber Hotzenplotz " and "Kohlhiesels Töchter". In 2007 “ Pippi Longstocking ” and “ Im Weisse Rößl ” were played. Since 2004 there has also been a small winter program in the club house.

With “ Michel from Lönneberga ” by Astrid Lindgren , 24,890 visitors were reached in 2002. In 2007 the number of visitors was 22,800. In total, the stage has had over 1,000,000 visitors since it was founded. In 2014 the association had 350 active members. In 2015 Patricia Hoffmann took over the management of the children's and adult theater.
