The Menden office in the former Iserlohn district was established in the 14th century and consisted of varying geographical expansion until the municipal reform in North Rhine-Westphalia in 1975.

history

The Menden office was established during the Electorate of Cologne in the 14th century. It was first mentioned in a document in 1333 when the Archbishop of Cologne pawned it. After Hesse-Darmstadt took over rule in 1802, the office continued to exist even after the offices were reorganized on September 22, 1807. It was divided into 10 Schultheissen districts and now included the city of Menden, the Neheim court (excluding Moosfelde ), the Sümmern court, Höllinghoven and the Vosswinkel patrimonial court in addition to the old official area . During this time, the bailiff was Anton Frigge.

In 1817 the town and office of Menden were assigned to the Iserlohn district . The court of Neheim, Höllinghoven and Voßwinkel was moved to the Arnsberg district in 1819 .

In 1974 the office included the following municipalities:

In 1900 the office had 6,097 inhabitants, of whom 5,622 were Catholics, 474 were Protestants and 1 were Jewish.

In 1961 the official area covered an area of 79.94 square kilometers and had 20,512 inhabitants.

On July 1, 1969, with the entry into force of the law on the reorganization of the Soest district and parts of the Beckum district of June 24, 1969, the municipality of Wimbern (Menden district, Iserlohn district) together with the communities of Schlückingen, Wickede and Wiehagen (Werl district) and the communities of Echthausen (Hüsten district, Arnsberg district) have merged to form the new, non-governmental community of Wickede (Ruhr).

In 1975, most of the Menden (Sauerland) office in the city of Menden (Sauerland) was added, only the majority of the former municipality of Sümmern was assigned to the city of Iserlohn .
