Harald Rüschenbaum
Harald Rüschenbaum (born April 9, 1956 in Vosswinkel ) is a German drummer and band leader. He is the artistic director of the Bavarian State Youth Jazz Orchestra.
Career
Rüschenbaum studied at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich from 1976 to 1980 , then at North Texas State University and the PIT Los Angeles in the USA.
In 1982 he founded the "Harald Rüschenbaum Jazz Orchestra", to which soloists such as Thomas Zoller , Peter Tuscher and Jürgen Seefelder belonged. Since 1993 he has been the director of the Bavarian State Youth Jazz Orchestra, founded by Richard Wiedamann , and has been a lecturer at the Munich University of Music since 2000 .
Rüschenbaum gave concerts in America, Russia, England, Sweden, Denmark, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Poland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Germany. Tours took place with Ack van Rooyen , Clark Terry , Claudio Roditi , Johnny Griffin , Don Menza , Lee Konitz , Buddy DeFranco , Vincent Herring , Reggie Johnson , Joe Haider and vocalists like Sandy Patton and Mark Murphy .
More than 470 workshops in America, Italy, Austria, Bosnia, Russia, Switzerland and Germany were led by Harald Rüschenbaum. In autumn 2012 he was a guest with his trio and guest star Don Menza in the BR series "Stage free in Studio 2". Since 2009 he has played with his quintet Cosmodrom , to which Daniel Klingl, Rafael Alcántara , Andrea Hermenau and Peter Cudek belong, on national and international stages. In his current project "Klangland", he unites musicians from the Munich jazz scene with current and former players from the Bavarian State Youth Jazz Orchestra to form a very flexible line-up, from solo to 12 musicians.
Prizes and awards
In 1983 he was a prizewinner of the German Phono Academy and in 1985 (as the first jazz musician) he received the Culture Promotion Prize of the City of Munich. In 2003, Harald Rüschenbaum was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit for his jazz activities . In 2006 he received the Carl Orff Medal from the Association of Bavarian Singing and Music Schools. In 2013 he was awarded the Bavarian State Prize for Music .
